Smith Mountain Dam Roanoke River, Virginia
Analyzed
the detailed hydraulic features of a hydro-electric dam during the
probable maximum flood including outlet and overtopping hydraulics and
detailed jet characterization. Analyzed rock characteristics and
distribution with borehole modeling software. Performed erosion
calculations with a semi-unsteady approach, to establish timing of
erosive events. Maricopa County Dam Erosion Assessment Arizona
Developed
an analytic, physically based erosion model to describe water and
sediment flow through embankment defects during rapid flood events.
Model developed for use as an engineering assessment tool to provide a
means of assessing dam breach dynamics, and to identify areas requiring
for embankment maintenance and flood control.
Coastal Erosion Analysis Northern California
Developed
methodology to calculate spatially varying shoreline retreat from
aerial photographic record of cliff erosion zone. Used GIS and analytic
graphing package to allow convenient geomorphic and time series
analysis.
